A four-day international conference, scheduled to be held in Dubai next February, will discuss the significance of enhancing food safety culture.
The Organizing Committee of the Dubai International Food Safety 2010 recently held a meeting headed by Khalid Mohammed Sharif Al Awadhi, Director of Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Committee to discuss the general framework of the conference to be held from 21 to 24 February 2010 under the title "Food Safety ... A Responsibility to Share."
The conference, the largest gathering of food safety experts and professionals in the region, will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on the sidelines of the Gulfood Exhibition, with a view to improving food safety in the Middle East.
Al Awadhi said that this annual conference, organized by the Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality with the support of several local, regional and international bodies such as the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, IFP and IFAW, attracts wide range of experts and professionals in the food industry. "It involves a large number of professionals who are interested in the development and application of food safety programs in various parts of the world," he said.
Al Awadhi said the conference discusses every year a large number of topics of interest to the food industry and the consequent issues such as changes in legislations related to food, application of international policies, food related diseases, and the withdrawal of food products.
The Conference held this year under the theme "Food Safety … A Responsibility to Share" will be addressed by international experts from America, Europe and New Zealand on various issues related to food safety, which include specifications and technical requirements on food safety.
The conference programme addresses several key topics related to food legislation and procedures for applications and general food safety culture and activating the role of food safety awareness.
He pointed out that the conference will also include a number of seminars, workshops and technical sessions that will provide professional development opportunities for the participants.
He added that the workshops will include topics of food poisoning and monitoring food related diseases. "Experts from WHO and the Centre for Disease Control in America will participate in the workshops, which will discuss topics such as meat and poultry, safety of drinking water, dairy products, food safety systems, and enhancing food safety culture," said Al Awadhi.
He pointed out that the recommendations that will emerge from the discussion sessions in the conference will contribute to the development of food safety at the local and regional levels.
Al Awadhi added that three committees were set up to organize the conference, the Consultative & Academic Committee, Media & PR Committee, and Finance & Registration Committee.
Al Awadhi extended his gratitude to the sponsors of the conference for their unwavering support, which "confirms the success of our strategic partnership with the private sector, which is considered an integral part of the food safety system."
