Dulsco opens Sharjah branch to meet market requirements
Dulsco has announced the opening of a new branch at the Lagoon Tower near the Al Buhairah Corniche in Sharjah to address the waste management needs arising from the emirate’s rapidly growing economy. The inauguration ceremony was headed by Dulsco Chairman Abdul Aziz Mohammad Khan, in the presence of officials from the Sharjah Municipality and Bee’ah, the Sharjah Environment Co.
Dulsco further revealed that while the company has in the past worked with various Sharjah-based organisations such as Bee’ah, the Sharjah Environment Co.; Lamprell; Maritime Industrial Services Co. Ltd.; and Conmix Ltd., the new branch office is currently in contact with government entities such as the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority and the Sharjah Aquarium to begin providing its services.
"Setting up a base in Sharjah is a strategic move aimed at better serving the emirate. It will increase our business effectiveness by capitalising on Sharjah’s impressive economic growth and through the opportunities offered by Sharjah Municipality, which is currently considering the privatisation of waste management services in the industrial areas and ports. There are currently very few legal operators established in the area, and our main strength is our extensive knowledge of the business and the local market," said Prakash Parab, Director of Dulsco Waste Management Services (WMS).
Dulsco has more than a decade of waste management expertise in the UAE. Dulsco Sharjah’s local services include the collection, transportation and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous solid & liquid wastes and tank cleaning services for various industries. In addition, this year Dulsco plans to introduce several new services to its portfolio. Plans are afoot to introduce tanker services and also increase the customer base of companies using waste related services in the emirate of Sharjah. It also intends to actively promote human resource related services in the emirate. Dulsco’s clients within Sharjah include companies based in the Hamriyah Free Zone, ports, industrial areas, players in the construction industry and employee accommodation.
"We maintain valuable business partnerships with leading companies involved within Sharjah’s various business sectors. We intend to acquire regular feedback on our services, regularly visit key clients to determine if we are meeting their expectations, and conduct yearly customer satisfaction surveys, including face to face interviews. These will provide us with inputs on what we should do to continue providing high quality services to our clients," added Paresh Karia, Senior Manager, Dulsco Sharjah.
Dulsco’s Waste Management Services, the first waste management firm in the UAE to be Integrated Management Systems certified, handles hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste in compliance with strict municipal and environmental provisions.
On another front, Dulsco organised a Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Week from December 10 to 17, 2009, which saw the participation of around 3,000 Dulsco employees. The company’s annual Quality Health Safety Environment Week (QHSE Week) featured various activities such as fire fighting competitions; emergency evacuation drills; and training sessions on proper equipment handling, defensive driving, electrical safety and basic first aid.
The QHSE Week – which is held yearly to reaffirm Dulsco’s commitment to upholding the highest QHSE standards in all its operations and work practices – also featured quizzes, hazard spotting competitions, safety slogan and safety poster competitions to test and reward the employees’ QHSE knowledge and abilities. A health camp focused on dental hygiene – where more than 150 employees were examined - and blood donation camps in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah were also organised as part of the QHSE Week.
"Quality, health, safety and environment standards are integral to our sustained organisational success. This event reminds us to uphold safe and environmentally-responsible practices and infuse quality in everything we do. It is also our way of expressing our concern for the well-being of our employees," said Mohammed Ayub, senior manager, QHSE, Dulsco.
78 diverse QHSE activities were conducted Dulsco-wide to educate employees on different QHSE subjects. This year the activities were planned to cover all levels of employees keeping workers as the epicenter of the campaigns.
Around 400 employees were presented with various gifts and appreciation during the week. Emergency evacuation and fire drills were conducted in all premises – including Dulsco Qatar.
"Such wide spread QHSE campaigns are conducted in the Dulsco primarily to emphasize the criticality of quality, health, safety and environment in different operations, and reassure the importance of QHSE related matters of employees, customers and the society at large ," said Johnson Alexander, Director of HR and QHSE.
