Nanotechnology based products to facilitate construction and FM industries
PCT Global, the Australian-based manufacturer of protective coatings for residential and commercial surfaces, is set to bring EnduroShield products to the Gulf region. The manufacturer claims that the nanotechnology-based products lower maintenance costs and reduce cleaning time of glass, tiles and ceramic by over 90 percent.
EnduroShield products were first presented to the Gulf region during the Big 5 trade exhibition last year. Since then, EnduroShield products have been the subject of enormous enquiries from the region’s suppliers, building owners, cleaning companies and facilities management services providers.
Clean Middle East magazine talked to Michael Katz,the global sales manager for PCT Global, and he said: “As a result of the numerous enquiries that we received at the Big 5 trade exhibition in Dubai, coupled with the dynamic growth and development of the UAE and the rest of the Gulf region, we are looking at the possibility of appointing a regional agent to distribute our products and create a market presence.”
Technology reduces cleaning time and eases maintenance costs
Scientifically, all surfaces are known to be porous, so they absorb pollution and contaminants which cause deterioration and discolouration. Also, glass, tiles and other surfaces which are always installed during the construction process of facilities are always subjected to splatter and run-off from concrete and cement. Such factors can complicate the cleaning jobs, making it more frequent and in the long run; such cleaning jobs become more costly.
EnduroShield is a permanent yet invisible non-stick protective coating which is only two molecules thick and acts as a shield to seal the porosity of the surface in question. According to Michael Katz, this technology can be applied once and it permanently bonds the surface, protecting it from stains and etches that come from grime, dirt, soap, fingerprints, hard water, lime scaling and other abrasive chemicals. This also helps to promote a germ-free environment by preventing build up of harmful bacteria and other microorganisms onto the treated surfaces.
The use of EnduroShield does not change the look and feel of the surface, but acts as a permanent shield to prevent containments from soaking into the surface. With it, contaminants only remain on the outside of the surface; making it easy to clean by using only water and a mild detergent or with a micro fibre cloth.
A statement from PCT Global said that it conducted a case study in which EnduroShield treated glass was exposed to extensive testing to determine the durability and longevity of the protective coating. The glass was exposed to ultra violent rays for approximately 10,000 hours and no visible changes were realized on the properties for the glass. Also, the glass did not lose any of its properties after 12 months of exterior exposure. It also passed 5000 wash cycles with a very minimal loss performance. The figure of 5000 cycles is equivalent to washing EnduroShield once per week for fifty weeks per year, for ten years.
This technology comes in various versions which include EnduroShield glass, EnduroShield stainless steel, EnduroShield tiles and grout and EnduroShield auto glass. It can be used in a wide array of applications including commercial facilities, residential establishments, public amenities, casinos, shopping centres, railway stations, malls, libraries etc.
