In pursuit of the intensifying thrust towards water conservation, UAE-based Design International has introduced the Falcon Waterfree Urinal System, which is said to save up to 40,000 gallons of water per year per urinal, as compared to the traditional water-flushing urinals.
The Falcon system is a money saving product which can also conserve natural resources all over the GCC, where billions of gallons of water are used annually to flush urinals.
With pilot installations in the UAE, including the Terminal 1 of the Dubai International Airport, Tatweer Global Village, Jumeirah Beach Park and Jumeirah Town Centre, the Falcon water-free urinal is said to reduce the unnecessary use of water while offering distinct advantages to the user. Such advantages may include lower utility charges, decreased installation and maintenance costs as well as improved restroom hygiene.
The US-based Falcon Water Technologies offers to its international clients a wide range of water-free toilet models including the new Lava, Lavalux, Clematis (F-4000), Freesia (F-5000), Flax, F-1000 and F-2000
The Falcon Waterfree urinal involves a vitreous china or stainless steel fixture and a patented, replaceable cartridge that is installed at the bottom of the urinal into a fitting that is connected to a drainpipe.
It comes with a cartridge which is shaped to act as a funnel and the combination of non-stick, non-porous materials of construction and its funnel-shape ensure all urine passes into the cartridge and through a unique sealant liquid that floats on top of the liquid beneath it.
The sealant liquid provides an airtight barrier between the urine and the restroom to prevent odors from escaping the drain, but allows the urine to pass through because it is lighter than water. Urine immediately penetrates the sealant liquid and flows to the drain. Uric sediment is collected by the cartridge, leaving an odor-free environment, clean pipes and absolutely no water waste.
The cartridge also features a sealing ring to provide an airtight barrier between the cartridge and the housing. The only maintenance required is routine cleaning of the fixture and an easy change of the cartridge, performed approximately three to four times per year.
The Falcon Water urinals are suited for municipalities, recreation parks and other public facilities, education institutions, commercial office buildings and manufacturing facilities, convention centers, sports arenas, and theaters; and malls and shopping centers.
