Kalima distributes ‘Abu Dhabi Alternative Energy Bags’ to schools in Western Region

Kalima, the translation project of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), continued the distribution of the ‘Abu Dhabi Alternative Energy Bag’ to schools in Al Ain and Al Gharbia (western Region).

The initiative titled ‘My Environment Illuminates My Home’ is held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi andeputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Dr. Ali bin Tamim, director of Kalima, handed out 1,000 bags to pupils at the fifth and six year primary school levels.

Each bag contained publications translated by Kalima into Arabic from English, French and German works, in a bid to encourage the youth to read. The initiative seeks to guide children on how to save on energy consumption, reduce waste by reducing consumption, promote recycling, and introduce youngsters to renewable energy sources by discussing their advantages and disadvantages, while motivating youth to love and protect their environment. Each gift bag included eight books dealing with renewable and alternative energy sources. The books include: “How toReduce Your Carbon Footprint” by Amanda Bishop; “Building a Green Community” by Ellen Rodger; “Geothermal Energy: Using Earth’s Furnace” by Carrie Gleason; “Ocean, Tidal, and Wave Energy: Power from the Sea” by Lynn Peppas; “Hydrogen: Running on Water”, “Harnessing Power from the Sun”, “Generating Wind Power”, and “Biomass: Fuelling Change”, all by Niki Walker. They were translated into Arabic by Omar Saeed Al Ayoubi.
