Date: 15-10-2018
Chennai metro rail (CMRL) has imported machinery from Germany to clean metro stations and other amenities including elevators, escalators, etc
An app will be used to monitor the cleaning process and twin bins will be introduced for garbage segregation. Cleaning and maintenance of each station can be monitored and validated by the CMRL officials real time, with data uploaded by each employee on completing their respective work schedule.

Being introduced as part of the station management plan, these machines will be used for cleaning and maintenance of the different types of floors, passenger amenities such as lifts and escalators, glass windows and rooms.

Special ride-on cleaning machines, high pressure water jet cleaning machines wet/dry vacuum cleaners are some of the machines imported, said a statement.

Composting machines are also going to be used, to convert degradable station waste into usable manure. For this purpose, twin bins (dust bins) marked with degradable and non-degradable stickers are to be placed in each level of the stations.

The waste collected will be segregated and moved to a location where a composite machine will process the waste and convert it to manure. This manure will be used in the gardens at CMRL stations.
