WILL AUGMENTED REALITY ASSIST IN CLEANER ROOMS?
Date: 13-12-2018

What is augmented reality?

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that layers computergenerated enhancements atop an existing reality in order to make it more meaningful through the ability to interact with it. AR is developed into apps and used on mobile devices to blend digital components into the real world in such a way that they enhance one another but can also be told apart easily. AR technology is quickly coming into the mainstream. It is used to display score overlays on telecasted sports games and pop out 3D emails, photos or text messages on mobile devices. Leaders of the tech industry are also using AR to do amazing and revolutionary things with holograms and motion activated commands.

So how will this affect the cleaning industry?

Social media is at its peak at the moment, quick to destroy the name of the best institution because of a slip in service or negligence in cleaning. After all, you cannot check and control everything your cleaning personnel is doing throughout the day. But AR is there to help companies who have made it their goal to deliver the best possible cleaning results.

AR combined with smart glasses can coordinate, control and enhance cleaning services, resulting in improved staff performance, enhanced quality control and better standardization, which will lead to fewer customer complaints.

Computer-based instructions (via the smart glasses) are transmitted to the cleaning personnel. Such instructions include which tasks should be completed, how and when. The AR system will guide the staff to know in what order to clean a room, what tools and cleaning agents to use, etc. The system even shows the adequate pressure to be used on the tools in order to achieve the desired results. Using AR would mean that much lesser mistakes are made and therefore better quality work is produced. It also serves as an instant on-the-spot training tool.

Enhanced with colour-coding, such a system would ensure that surfaces are cleaned spotlessly as unclean areas appear in red and cleaned areas appear in green colour. The same technology allows you to monitor the performance of your staff in real time, meaning at any given time one would know how much of a job given has been completed. At the same time, it can be verified if the right tools have been used. A new gadget to look forward to!
