Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) a multispecialty hospital has achieved the Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS), including the optional pillar Green Building (CIMS-GB). Earlier this year, the FM company Farnek also achieved the CIMS-GB certification. CIMS, developed by ISSA is a global, comprehensive management and operations standard for cleaning organisations, facility managers, cleaning business owners working in a competitive marketplace. Compliance to the standard through CIMS certification ensures an organisation has in place the processes, policies, and management style needed to be professional, reliable, profitable, and sustainable in the long term, as well as the appropriate structure to deliver operational excellence. CIMS consists of six principles including quality systems, service delivery, human resources, health, safety, and environmental stewardship, management commitment and green building (optional). Certification to CIMS-GB guarantees the company is prepared to deliver a comprehensive greencleaning programme based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED EB: O&M) green cleaning criteria. Manuela D’Agata, ISSA International Education & Certification Director, stated, “Middle Eastern cleaning companies are eager to learn more about CIMS. The CIMS-GB component is meeting the needs of those end users who are demanding a more responsible use of environmental resources from their cleaning services providers.” Currently, some 200 organisations across the globe have achieved CIMS certification.
